How are PVC Tarpaulins made?

To make polyester fabric, polyester fiber is first obtained. This is done through reacting dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol at extremely high temperatures, creating a monomer.

The monomer is then reacted with dimethyl terephthalate again to create a polymer. These molten polymer will extrude from the reaction chamber as long strips, which are cooled, dried and broken down into small pieces.

The small pieces are then melted again which creates a honey-like substance, extruded through a spinneret to create fibers.

As the fibers are created, they are passed through a large weaving machine to transform it into polyester fabric.

Now that the polyester fabric is completed, it is coated with a layer of PVC. PVC coating is obtained through heating PVC pellets which when cooled, becomes a soft, flexible and rubber-like material. The coating is known for its toughness, excellent corrosion resistance and impact resistance.
